The existing equipment for electrofusion welding of polyethylene pipes does not allow obtaining a high-quality connection at air temperatures below minus 10°C. It is proposed to additionally preheat the heat-affected zone of the welded joint with a built-in heater and control its cooling when welding under ambient conditions in the temperature range from minus 50 to plus 40°C. The results of calculations are presented that confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method for controlling the thermal welding process at low temperatures.
