Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is a solid-state combining process, which is a variant of Friction Stir Welding (FSW); However, quality is unavoidable to control the distortion of welding specimen on account of improper fixture design to maintain the edges in a proper position during the FSSW process. To solve this problem, this paper deals with a design, fabrication and numerical analysis of a fixture and its linear clamping arrangement for a Vertical Milling Machine, which contains four C-type clamps and backing plate are planned in such a manner to hold the workpieces unbendingly on every single point of the workpiece during the welding activity. The fixture design and analysis have been done by CATIA V5 and Solidworks software and Mild Steel is used for fabrication. The welded specimen shows significant improvements when comparing with other specimens, which were welded by normal fixtures. Furthermore, better results were obtained from the numerical simulation through various strength tests.
