Aluminium alloys possess good properties like high specific strength, low density and good castability. Further improvement in material performance can be achieved by compositing. The development of particulate reinforced composite is a sustainable alternative because of their low density and near-isotropic properties. The work is focused on the preparation of Zirconium Dioxide (ZrO2) reinforced Al7075 alloy composites intended for the purpose of automotive components through stir casting. Microstructure study revealed better dispersion of reinforcements along the grain boundaries and the refinement of structure with the addition of reinforcements. Composite with 6% ZrO2 exhibited better performance; this behaviour was found to be correlated with grain refinement in the composite materials.
