The results of the analysis of the morphological diversity of the nasal planum of German Shepherd and Belgian Shepherd (Malinois) is presented in the article. Evaluation of the exterior of the dogs for compliance with the requirements of the standard showed the defective features of population: shortening of the muzzle face length, insufficient elongation of the body (German Shepherds); insufficient growth, decreased head length, poorly expressed sexual dimorphism and excessive elongation of the body (Belgian Shepherds). Interbreed differences in the nasal planum of dogs in width and height have been revealed. The Malinois has a smaller nasal planum, 12.5% lower than that of German Shepherds and 7.5% narrower than that of German Shepherds. The size of the nasal planum showed a strong positive correlation with the height at the withers, oblique body length and the length of the head of the dog. The total area of the nostrils of German Shepherds is 14% more than that of Malinois, which reflects the breed characteristics of the exterior and the greater success of German Shepherds in working on the odorprint. The asymmetry of the area of the left and right nostrils was not revealed in both breeds. A nasal planum with a convex rounded back, wide and even wings is illustrative of German Shepherds; the free lobe of the dorsal wing is widened and does not completely overlap the nostril notch from the side, the pterygoid notch of the planum reaches the base of the planum and is located at a steep ascending angle. The shape of the nose mirror is presented in four versions: a circle, an oval elongated horizontally, heart-shaped or mushroom-shaped. The nostrils are wide, stretched horizontally by almost 10% relative to the height. Malinois has plenums which are convex at the apex, the pterygoid notches are located more gently, the dorsal wings of the nose are narrow, the ventral wings are long and wide, the opening of the nostrils is more open from the side than in German Shepherds. Two forms of the nasal mirror are noted - a horizontally elongated oval and a heart-shaped form. The nostrils are oval, extended vertically. The large area and width of the nostrils determine the higher efficiency of using the German Shepherd in the search for odorprint than the Malinois.
