The article considers the quality of food products of the population as one of the indicators of socio-economic development of society. The classification of deviations in the quality of food from the optimal needs is carried out: deviations can be quantitative, structural and qualitative. The factors that affect the quality of food products of the population are grouped into three main groups: the quality of food products on the market; the economic availability of quality food products for the population; whether consumers have sufficient knowledge to assess the consequences of consumption. As an example of assessing the quality of food, information on the practice of using antibiotics in agriculture is provided. The most essential conditions for ensuring the quality of food products are identified: the presence of a regulatory framework, monitoring the implementation of the regulatory framework, ensuring competition in the food market. Conclusions are drawn about the necessary measures aimed at improving the quality of food.
