The problems of choosing effective organizational forms and mechanisms for supporting research, especially fundamental research in developing countries, remain insufficiently studied. A systematic analysis of the activities of scientific foundations of the BRICS countries was carried out; the goals and objectives of the foundations, organizational and expert structures, types of competitions, procedures for expertise and competitive selection of applications, evaluation of the results obtained, features of methodological and information support are described.
