The purpose of the study in this paper is to analyze the non-stationary process in an oil pipeline in the event of a leak or criminal tie-in. The analysis is performed using a software package written by the authors, the calculation of which is based on the method of characteristics, and its main feature is the visualization of the unsteady process and the reflection of the pressure wave from the pipeline inserts. The software package allows you to calculate the parameters of the oil pipeline operation in real time and visualize them, which makes it possible to analyze the data obtained and draw conclusions from them, compare the results obtained with real data obtained from production facilities, and also use the written software package to evaluate student training and evaluate the effectiveness of leak detection methods.
