With the increasing demand for innovative designs of freight cars with increased load capacity and a longer service life than usual, there are questions in the design concerning the bearing capacity and long-term performance of future cars. This article evaluates the stress state of the riveted joints of the loop holders of the unloading hatches of gondola cars models with normal and increased load capacity using the finite element method. The authors propose and scientifically justify a new design of the loop holder, which allows reliably perceiving the increased loads of existing and promising designs under development of universal gondola cars.
