The paper theoretically considers the possibility of obtaining and forming the rolling surface of the rail heads in the technological process of rails grinding. The conditions for the joint interaction of the working edge of the railway rail heads with an abrasive tool are recreated under various conditions of mechanical treatment during the grinding process. The criterion that connects the high accuracy of the formation of the rolling surface ensuring the efficiency of the process of grinding rails is disclosed.
