Astronomical research in Japan

In this article the author describes a brief history of astronomical research in Japan, research institutes and observatories as well as their facilities and their future plans, particularly, those for the National Astronomical Observatory and the Institute for Space and Astronautical Sciences. Also it is mentioned how their facilities can be used and what are available by astronomers not directly associated with these institutes.
