C/C and C/SiC composites are restricted to limited applications because of its susceptibility to oxidation at elevated temperatures. This review article includes various coatings of UHTC for Carbon/Carbon and Carbon/SiC composites to improve its oxidation resistance. Various methods like Pack Cementation, RIP, VPS, CVD, IPS, etc., employed for the preparation of UHTC coatings were studied. Discrete compositions in different researches namely HfB2- SiC, ZrB2-SiC-Si/Yb2SiO5/LaMgAl11O19, ZrB2-SiC-TiSi2, CrSi2-ZrSi2-Y2O3/SiC which contained UHTC's like HfC, ZrB2, SiC, ZrC provided good safeguard for C/C composites against oxidation under various temperature ranges. Defects like micro pores and micro cracks also were observed on the substrate surface in some works due to the increment of oxidation time, improper distribution of material, etc. This article provides a good insight for researchers who want to work on UHTC coatings.
