The issues of the experimental study of the wear resistance of a friction couple of zirconium ceramics and hard chromium coating when sliding without lubrication under conditions of reciprocating motion are discussed in the article. The wear resistance of ceramic material, chrome coating and friction couple is investigated. The wear of the materials was determined by the gravimetric method with recalculation to the nominal area of contact of the test specimens. Changes in wear resistance indicators are analyzed in the case of using composite materials with a ceramic matrix based on zirconium dioxide with different sintering temperatures and nanostructured crystals of zirconium dioxide partially stabilized by yttrium oxide. A higher wear resistance of crystals was found in comparison with ceramics. On the basis of the study, the fields of promising application of zirconium ceramic materials for the manufacture of axle boxes for hydrocylinders of hydraulic actuators, working in tandem with rods with hard chrome coating, have been established.
