In the present study, the influence of corrosion behaviour on LM4 reinforced zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) metal matrix composites was studied. The composites were prepared by using mechanical stir casting technique, by varying the percentage of ZrO2 from 3 wt.% to 6 wt.% in steps of 3 wt.%. Pure matrix material of LM4 was also fabricated to compare the results obtained with the cast composites. The corrosion behavior of base metal (LM4) and LM4/ZrO2 composite was evaluated by salt spray (or) salt fog method. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that the loss in weight of the specimen decreases with the increase in the percentage of reinforcement added. The rate of corrosion of base metal (LM4) was much higher when compared to LM4/ZrO2 composites. For all the tested composite specimens, the LM4/6wt%ZrO2 composites exhibit greater corrosion resistance. The optical microscope was used to analysis the microstructure of composites before and after corrosion.
