Blood transfusion plays an important part in the treatment of patients in health care facilities and as a life-saving procedure. Screening of donated blood for transfusion-transmitted diseases is one aspect of blood safety and availability strategies. The study amid to evaluate the transfusion-transmitted infectious diseases in blood transfusions. Subject: The study extended from the first of January to the end of December 2020. Data on voluntary blood donors were collected from the blood center at Diyala governorate. Screening tests were performed on 20890 voluntary donors to detect syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C viruses and, AIDS. Blood group testing was performed to detect A, B, O, and Rh antigens distribution among donors. The transfusion-transmitted infectious diseases percentage was 2.2 %, 2.1 %,0.8 %and 0 % respectively . The blood group O+ is the commonest, while the blood group AB-is the least. Conclusion; The prevalence of the most important infectious diseases transmitted through blood transfusion is relatively low and still within the ordinarily expected limits In Diyala Governorate.
