Infectious mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), Within B-lymphocytes, the virus remains dormant and can reactivate, resulting in malignant transformation of these cells. The aim of this study was to identify EBV infection and link it to Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. After 3371 serum samples collection, HBV and HCV were detected then the positive results tested for EBV. Serological test was based on measurements of 4 parameters were nuclear antigen (EBNA) IgG , EBV capsid antigen (VCA) IgM, EBV capsid antigen (VCA) IgG , and EBV early antigen (EA) IgG. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used for all measurements. Thirty patients tested positive for hepatitis as a result of this study's findings, 15 for each hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus with a median age of 43 (10–75) years, all hepatitis B and C samples (30) were positive to EBV. In this study EBV VCA IgG was detected in all samples (100%), EBV EBNA IgG 27(90 %), EA IgG 16( 53%) and EBV VCA IgM 19(63%) . a high rate of reactivation (53%) then latent or past infection (37%) and acute primary infection (10%) while early phase not detected. acute primary infection associated with hepatitis B only in case of checking for surgical while no cases of hepatitis C. This study showed that past infection of EBV associated with hepatitis B (5)in all type cases while hepatitis C(6) in cases of thalassemia and checking for surgical reactivation infection of EBV associated with hepatitis B (7)in cases of checking for mirage while hepatitis C(9) in cases of thalassemia and checking for surgical. When treating patients with hepatitis, an EBV diagnosis should be considered, and appropriate protocols should be developed.
