PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. is a company engaged in the nickel mining industry that uses a surface mining system with an open cast method. The effects of the surface mining system, there is an expansion of the mining area, so that the excavation, loading, and hauling activities experience a decrease ineffectiveness. The purpose of this study is to estimate the need for digging-loading equipment and haul-truck equipment. The method used in this study is to analyze the factors that affect the need for mechanical devices, such as cycle time, distance, the density of materials, and availability of tools, productivity. The calculation of mining equipment requirements uses two models. Based on the distribution one block into several mining fronts by region and calculated in total in one block without the division of baseline to achieve the production target of 82,611,762 tons/year of material. The results of calculations by the model by region produce more number of tools compared to the baseline model, namely one unit difference for Excavator Hitachi ZX 870 BH, Shovel Hitachi EX 1900 FS and Loader CAT 992 Class, while three units difference for Dump Truck CAT 777D.
