Caries is an infection that destroys teeth structure and is caused by cariogenic bacteria activated by carbohydrates. In 2018, it recorded that 93% of children aged 5 to 6 experience of caries disease. Topical therapy in the form of fluoride varnish is one of many ways to prevent caries on teeth. A variety of fluoride varnish with different flavor oil also has other fluoride release performance. This research conducts a study of fluoride varnish formulation using the addition of LorAnn Oils flavor oils with the following flavors: strawberry-kiwi, cinnamon roll, and marshmallow to find a variety with the highest fluoride release rate. The fluoride release test is done in four hours using a fluoride ion-selective electrode. The result proves that the density and concentration of the flavor oil used will impact fluoride ion release.
