An internal combustion engine consists of various components amongst them crankshaft is one of the essential component. Crankshaft translates the reciprocating motion of the piston to rotary output which is transmitted as input for running various components of an automotive vehicle. This paper focuses on modelling and finite element analysis of a single cylinder petrol engine crankshaft of a two wheeler motorcycle. The original crankshaft dimensions are measured manually and theses dimensions are used for three dimensional modelling of a crankshaft using creo modelling software which is statically analyzed in Ansys workbench. The FEM results for stresses and strain by computer based static analysis are compared with theoretical results of stress and strain. The critical locations of the crankshaft like the high stressed region and maximum deformation regions are identified by static analysis. The comparison and identification of critical location is useful for further optimization of crankshaft.
