The primary objective of the present study is to investigate the hydrodynamic and the thermal performances of different types of wavy fins using finite element method. Eight cases of fins based on the sinusoidal wave of different wavelengths on the side boundary are considered in the present investigation. Three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes and energy equations along with standard k-ε turbulence model are employed to govern the mathematical model of turbulent flow and heat transfer within the computational domain. Parametric simulation is carried out for various Reynolds numbers ranging from 2.5×104 to 3.5×104 within turbulent flow regime. Variations of average Nusselt number, coefficient of drag force, fin effectiveness as a function of Reynolds number are thoroughly analyzed and the comparative study reveals a better design of fin from the selected cases.
