The inhibitory activity of high molecular oil fractions is investigated by the method of microcalorimetry. The model reaction of initiated cumene oxidation is used to establish the effect of high molecular oil fractions isolated by different methods on the radical reaction. The predominant mechanism of inhibition is a decrease in the oxidation rate of the model reaction. For two asphaltene samples, a pronounced induction period is recorded and the inhibition rate constants are calculated. They have characteristic of oil systems k7 = (6.5–26) × 103 values l/mol s. Some of the samples under study exhibit an unconventional initiating effect on the model reaction of radical oxidation of cumene, which is due to the decomposition of thermolabile structural fragments of asphaltene macromolecules.
