In this note we present a concise overview of the quest of the nuclear theory community to propose and vindicate a viable microscopic many-particle quantum theory which is capable of explaining and predicting the great diversity of recent data coming from observations of neutron stars based on the motions of the individual nucleons in the stars. We dedicate special attention to the coupled-cluster method for nuclear matter calculations.
