A number of annular cylindrical RF-resonators is studied here in the context of serving as a specialized receive-transmit antennas (commonly referred to as coils) in penile magnetic resonance imaging. The intended niche application results in a number of particular requirements to the coils, particularly, strong decoupling from the large lossy body mass in the vicinity of the coil, and high magnetic field homogeneity inside the coil. Three solenoid-based designs and one birdcage-based design are considered for operation at 63.85 MHz in this work. Simulations are performed to assess the influence of the patient body on the quality factor of the coil and the field homogeneity the coils provide. The results show that the birdcage-based design provides higher field homogeneity than solenoid-based designs, while exhibiting similar independence from the patient body.
