In this article we have demonstrated electrodeposition of CdS into AAO template, resulting into growth of CdS nanobelts than usual nanorods. During FE-SEM scanning something peculiar was observed; the nanobelts were whirling under the influence of focused electron beam, the reason for which is further discussed. Further, enhanced optical properties of the nanobelts were evaluated using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence emission. The energy storage properties of the nanobelts were recorded using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanic charging-discharging cycle (GCD) resulting into 578 F g−1 at 5 mV s−1.
