The purpose of this research is to find out students’ understanding of the ability in writing scientific papers. This research was conducted in Chemistry Education students, Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculties, Islamic University of Indonesia, academic year 2018/2019. This research was done with students with a total of 42 people. Retrieval of data in this research using test techniques in the form of multiple-choice questions. The instrument for the multiple-choice test consists of ten indicators to assess students’ understanding of ability in scientific writing paper technique. The result of this research showed that the ability of students’ understanding of writing scientific papers is good. The 70% received are categorized as “good” and “very good”, while the other two indicators get a portion of <70% with the “less good” and “sufficiently good” categories.
