In visible light communication (VLC) systems, it is mandatory to control both data transmission and lighting. Modulation technique such as pulse position modulation (PPM), is used to resolve dimming control and flicker mitigation. This paper presents performance evaluation of variable pulse position (VPPM) demodulator using two kinds of analog front end (AFE), analog to digital (ADC) and comparator. In matter of hardware complexity, comparator sampling has less complexity compared to ADC sampling. As a tradeoff, comparator sampling has less performance compared to ADC AFE. This paper shows that using ADC sampling has better bit error rate (BER) performance up to 1dB compared to comparator sampling.
