The development of traffic in the central business district area along Brigjend. Slamet Riyadi road, Surakarta City, Indonesia, is relatively dense and not in accordance with the development and changes in the environmental situation. These phenomenon makes traffic jam at the signalised intersections. Transportation planning related to management and traffic engineering, and infrastructure needed to be done to parse the traffic problems. Based on the vision of the city government of Surakarta related to sustainable transportation, then the Brigjend. Slamet Riyadi road will adopt a one-way system with a contra flow for public transport. In order to improve the performance of signalised intersection, therefore, needs to be installed bus priority traffic signal control at signalised intersection. The aim of this study is to design demand responsive bus priority traffic signal control at signalised intersection to minimise vehicles delay, vehicles speed and bus travel time. The Bus Priority Traffic Signal Control (BPTSC) has been developed and evaluated by using traffic micro-simulation VISSIM. The effectiveness of the proposed BPTSC has been evaluated at mixed traffic conditions of developing country where the traffic is untidy, traffic streams consist of different types of vehicles with a wide variation in their static, dynamic and operating characteristics, and with a particularly high proportion of motorcycles. The simulation results show that the road network performance under the proposed BPTSC better than the optimised Fixed Time Control in terms of vehicle delay, vehicle speed and bus travel time.
