In this article mortars made from a blended cement binder containing ash obtained from the combustion of wood biomass were investigated. The cement binder was replaced by ash at 10 % and 15 % by weight respectively. The basic material characteristics were examined on the prepared mortars, and in order to determine the functional properties of the material and its possible durability, liquid water transport properties, permeability for water vapor and thermal properties were also tested. Since there was no significant deterioration in the properties studied, this type of ash can be recommended as a partial replacement of a cement binder, which brings both economic and environmental benefits.
