Polycrystalline form of pure and zirconium doped barium titanate BaTi1-xZrxO3 (x = 0.12 and 0.24) have been prepared using sol-gel auto combustion synthesis route. The X-ray diffraction of the prepared materials confirmed that all the samples were in phase. The pure barium titanate crystallized into tetragonal phase while with the increase of doping concentration of zirconium the material transformed from tetragonal to pseudo-cubic. The optical band gaps of the prepared samples were determined using UV-Visible spectroscopy.
