Metamaterials are artificial materials assembly of structures of sub-wavelength dimensions, and are known to exhibit unusual properties that can be exploited for several purposes. In this paper, we report a novel planar design suitable for metamaterial applications. The structure yields very low transmittivity and negative refractive index at 1120nm. The computation is performed using Finite Element Method with the help of Comsol Multiphysics and MATLAB, and the refractive index is obtained using the S-parameters.
