Oxidative damage is an unbalance of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) level in cells that is surpass the antioxidant level, which is caused by UV exposure. Bawang Dayak that is known as having antioxidant can inhibit oxidative damage, which would be studied in this study. This study used male rats (Rattus norvegicus) as its subject, which were divided into four groups: P0(control group), P1 (UV exposed group), P2 (given the extract group), and P3 (given the extract and UV exposure group). Superoxide Dismutase Enzyme (SOD) activity was measured by using Misra-Fridovich method, Malondialdehyde (MDA) level was measured by using Buege-Aust. Method and Advanced Oxidation Protein Products (AOPP) was measured by using Witko-Sarsat method. Results showed that SOD activity increased, MDA and AOPP level decreased. The conclusion of this study is that Bawang Dayak extract has a role as an antioxidant in Rattus norvegicus skin induced by UV.
