Plant lines expressing an agrobacterial cytokinin synthesis gene ipt were obtained by agrobacterial transformation of intact tobacco seeds. Transgenic lines were grown on MS medium with 100 μM and 200 μM of copper ions, while control lines died under such conditions. Determination of biochemical stress markers showed that copper ions cause a 2-fold increase in membrane lipid peroxidation and a higher activity of superoxide dismutase in control plants, while in transgenic lines, these indicators were significantly less.
