The current study examines the propagation of Love wave in a sandy layer under initial stress over a pre-stressed heterogeneous orthotropic half-space. Directional rigidities and densities are assumed to vary quadratically along with depth in the half-space. The dispersion equation has been achieved in its closed form by applying the separation of variable method. As a particular case, when the layer and half-space is considered to be isotropic and homogeneous, the dispersion relation thus obtained concurs with the classical equation of Love wave. Numerical simulations have been carried out and graphs have been plotted to exposit the substantial effect of heterogeneity, sandy and initial stress parameters on the phase velocity of Love waves. This study may be convenient to discover its applications in different areas of engineering, geophysics, seismology and many more.
