The Nonvolatile memory effect based on ZnO nanomaterials doped p-ethoxy benzylidene-p-cyano aniline (EBCA) nematic liquid crystals has been observed. The memory effect has been analyzed by polarizing optical microscopy and dielectric spectroscopy. This experiments have reported that ZnO nanoparticles have drastic effects on nematic liquid crystals increasing the isotropic nematic transistion temperature by about 10K. To understanding these effects we develop a theory for the statistical mechanics of ZnO nanoparticles in liquid crystals. Detailed studies of the dielectric parameters as a function of frequency (1Hz to 1 KHz) with temperature range (40°C - 130°C) were carried out. It was found that as ZnO concentration in NLC, the value of dielectric permittivity decreases. The dielectric loss and relaxation time have also measured in the nematic phase. Decrease in relaxation time in nanodispersed EBCA suggests the low switching times and power consumption of display devices. This is most wanting feature in the present green technology.
