Metal lactates display interesting properties applicable for synthesis of various materials especially metal oxide nanoobjects. Synthesis, characterization and thermal properties of few selected metal lactates (e.g. zirconium, barium or selected rare earths) were studied. Also, examination of solid state products of thermal decomposition is topic of this contribution. Thermal properties of lactates were examined by STA and synthetized lactates and products of thermal decomposition were characterized by XRD and SEM-EDS analyses. Obtained results may be useful for chemists and material engineers and also reveals some problems which may be encountered during synthesis.
