We report enhanced thermoelectric performance of SnTe by Yb doping. The p-type thermoelectric power enhances at room temperature from ∼19 µV/K (for SnTe) to ∼30 µV/K (for 5% Yb doped SnTe) while thermal conductivity is reduced by 34%. The enhancement in thermoelectric power is understood via valence band modification and poor thermal conductivity is explained by improved phonon scattering in doped compound.
