Recent improvements in the accuracy of ballistic missiles have produced doubts in the survivability of even the hardest military targets, such as land based Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), during a nuclear war. Although most of the details of the performance of current missile guidance systems are classified, reasonable estimates of current missile accuracy can be obtained from the open literature. The basic physical principles underlying the missile accuracy problem will be discussed.
