The saturation of an electron plasma wave introduced by the resonant beating of two laser beams is usually attributed to the detuning introduced by the nonlinearities in the interaction process. This detuning can be compensated by varaible plasma density or driving frequencies. A simple model is proposed in which the longitudinal electric field evolution is described by a modified Duffing’s equation which is solved numerically. Solutions restitute qualitatively the behaviour observed in more involved calculation: moderate compensations enhance the saturation level. The role of damping on the growth and saturation is investigated.
