Experimental differential cross sections for two‐body π absorption on the diproton (1So proton pair in 3He) are described. A partial wave analysis of the 63 MeV data demonstrates that 88% of the cross‐section proceeds through the p‐wave non‐Δ T=0 channel. It is shown how a partial wave analysis including polarization data can determine the physical amplitudes for this process. We describe how these amplitudes can test six quark cluster descriptions of the short distance pp wave function, and compare the cross‐section data to six quark cluster calculations.
