The Newtonian and special-relativistic predictions for the mean trajectory of a model low-speed scattering system are compared. Contrary to expectation, we show that the meantrajectory predictions of the two theories, which are based on the same parameters and initial conditions, can disagree completely. When the agreement between the two mean-trajectory predictions for a low-speed scattering system breaks down, we expect the special-relativistic prediction to be empirically correct.
