The accelerating universe and the nature of the dark energy that drives it, remains a fundamental mystery in modern physics. In this article, I summarise the recent observational progress in understanding dark energy. I will present the latest results measuring its equation of state from combinations of Type Ia Supernovae and measurements of large scale structure, and discuss the prospects for future progress over the course of the next decade.
