Ultrasound imaging or ultrasound scanning has become a very important diagnostic tool in many areas of medicine. However, due to inherent speckle noises in the ultrasound images which make the images unclear for fast interpretation, the use of ultrasound for bone fracture detection is limited. Therefore, a study was carried out to reduce speckle using filtering functions such as Biorthogonal, Daubechies, Haar and Symlets in the wavelet domain. This paper discusses the level of improvement obtained through these wavelet functions. It was ascertained by peak signal‐to‐noise ratio (PSNR). The results show that amongst the wavelets, the Daubechies yielded better performance.
