An experiment has been carried out to study current generation by Doppler shifted cyclotron resonance heating of minority ions with a unidirectional wave in the small tokamak at Texas Tech University. One of the objectives of the experiment is to understand in detail the wave‐particle interactions through which fast (compressional) Alfvén waves in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies drive currents in toroidal devices.
