Zn/ZnO nanostructures such as nanowires and nanotetrapods have been prepared by carbothermal evaporation under flowing argon and oxygen gases. Morphology of ZnO structures has been controlled by changing the time/temperature of the inlet and flow rate of the oxygen gas. Mechanism for the growth of nanowires and tetrapods has been discussed. It is seen that the nanostructure of prepared material is basically determined by conditions prevailing during formation of nuclei.
