Measurements of the magnetocaloric effect in a single crystal nickel sphere have been carried out for applied fields from 90 to 900 oersteds for temperatures close to Tc. The field dependence is consistent with a parametric equation of state fitted to magnetization data. For this equation the adiabatic exponent π=(γ+2β−1)/β=2.78. The data are normalized to and compared with the specific heat data of Connelly, Loomis and Mapother [Phys. Rev. B 3, 924 (1971)].
