Last month, we looked at the fields of graduate study for the 48% of physics bachelors who went to graduate school after earning their degrees. This month, we consider the 46% of physics bachelors who took a job within one year of graduation. (The remaining 6% were unemployed.)

About three-fifths of the physics bachelors who took a job were working in the private sector. Some were working at a college or university, typically as a lab coordinator or assistant. A few taught at the high school level or were participating in active military duty. Some worked for a government entity (including at a national lab). The remaining 8% were employed in some other sector.

Next month we will take a closer look at the fields of employment for graduates working in the private sector.
