The stunning cover picture of a “superior mirage” on the January 2022 issue, along with DiLisi’s article1 explaining unusual optical phenomena at sea, opened a new vista of examples for me in teaching about mirages. Reflections of the sky that look like pools of water in the desert or on hot pavement are nothing compared to levitating cruise ships and give credence to the reported sightings of ghost ships like the Flying Dutchman. Thanks for this eye opener!
