I understand where Dr. DeBuvitz’s response is coming from: Learning Ally is a great library of audio textbooks. The reason it probably wasn’t mentioned in our paper was because of one keyword: audio. While I know a few blind scientists (most of whom lost their vision later in life) who have been successful with audio-only physics content, I am most definitely not one of those people. In my apartment now I have three tall bookshelves filled with about half of my undergraduate library of Braille textbooks. Mathematical information, while useful in audio if no other form whatsoever is available, is very cumbersome and unwieldy. This is not intended to be too negative about the work that Learning Ally does; Braille is just a better format for me personally, and for many other learners, when it comes to scientific content.
