I wanted to offer a deeper reflection with regard to Maryanne Angliongto’s suggestions for teachers in her review on The Only Woman in the Room from the December 2017 journal.1 As a high school physics teacher, I have had the opportunity to train and work in a number of districts. I distinctively recall considering working at one school where I was advised by one of the two female science teachers that this school was a “boys club.” Interestingly enough, one of the physics teachers in an interview cited that the reason few girls enroll in AP Physics is because they are simply “not interested.” It made me wonder how “boys’ club” departments influenced the choice of major for students.
