A tradition at the American Journal of Physics (AJP) is to list and to thank the reviewers who have helped us through the last year. We are a bit late this year with the list that has typically appeared in the December issue but no less grateful. Below is the late list of the 668 reviewers who have done the work that is crucial to maintaining the standards of AJP. Aside from this list the volunteer work is anonymous but is not quite thankless. Many authors do thank reviewers for suggestions that lead to improvements in papers; some authors even acknowledge the contributions of the anonymous reviewers. We hereby acknowledge the contributions of all of the 668 reviewers who have helped us in this past (somewhat too long past) year, from August 31, 2017 to September 1, 2018.
Starting with the previous reviewer list and acknowledgment a new feature was started: the recognition of outstanding reviewers, reviewers who have helped so frequently and so well that they deserve some special recognition, the Reviewer Excellence award, a coveted asterisk following the reviewer name. In the announcement of the award (see AJP 85, 889), we stated that we would choose ½% of reviewers each year, after playing catch-up by choosing 2% in the first year. We have decided, however, that there is much catching up to do and have chosen to anoint 1% this year. The list below indicates with asterisks the 7 newly acknowledged reviewers and those 10 who have previously been recognized, if they have been active this past year.
