David Jackson of Dickinson College has been appointed the new editor of the American Journal of Physics beginning September 1, 2011. The members of the search committee were John Mallinckrodt, chair, Karen Cummings, Steve Iona, Marie Plumb, and Joe Serene. Beth Cunningham, executive officer of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), and I were ex officio members. I am very happy that the committee was able to find such a qualified candidate.

David received his B.S. Magna Cum Laude with distinction in Physics from the University of Washington and his Ph.D. from Princeton University. He has been at Dickinson since 2001 and was chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 2006 to 2009. His main area of research is in pattern formation and nonlinear dynamics.
